the bee's knees

Todays inspiration is brought to you by the honey bee:

The pedigree of honey Does not concern the bee, Nor lineage of ecstasy Delay the butterfly On spangled journeys to the peak Of some perceiveless thing — The right of way to Tripoli A more essential thing. -Emily Dickinson

I spotted these pretty birds nests in Mosey's shop on etsy the other day. These would be really pretty on a dessert or cake table. You could also put them near your guest book!

Do me a favor

I really like the idea of food favors. It seems like a really good idea for a few reasons:

1.) Not wasteful. I think little wedding favors are usually cute in the moment, but later people might just throw them away because really, what do you do with them? Especially monogrammed items.

2.) Leftovers. I don't like the idea of being stuck with 25-50 favors. If its food, usually people would want to take more than one. Or just eat them yourself :)

3.) Inexpensive. How expensive could two cookies per guest, really be? Depending on who/where you have them made, it could be a lot cheaper than say the $2.50 + per guest most favors are.

4.) Expressive. The cookie, mini cake, pie, candy etc. could be a favorite of yours and the groom.

I also like the idea of plant favors, but I'll get to that on another post :)

Inspiration

Surfing the internet this morning, I stumbled across a wedding that I thought was completely beautiful. The photographs speak for themselves. The couple is Sarah and Mike and photographer is Leigh Miller. The photos, the simple decor, the couple...everything is amazing! Please click on the link for more photos: Leigh Miller.

oh, billy

As I write this, Billy Joel's Just the way you are came on my internet radio. Oh, what a perfect first dance song. So sweet. This is going on the list.

Don't go changing, to try and please me,
You never let me down before,
Don't imagine, you're too familiar,
And I don't see you anymore.

I would not leave you, in times of trouble,
We never could have come this far,
I took the good times, I'll take the bad times,
I'll take you just the way you are.

Don't go trying, some new fashion,
Don't change the colour of your hair,
You always have my, unspoken passion,
Although I might not seem to care.

I don't want clever, conversation,
I never want to work that hard,
I just want someone, that I can talk to,
I want you just the way you are.

I need to know that you will always be
The same old someone that I knew,
What will it take till you believe in me,
The way that I believe in you?

I said I love you, and that's forever,
And this I promise from the heart,
I couldn't love you, any better,
I love you just the way you are.

I don't want clever, conversation,
I never want to work that hard,
I just want someone, that I can talk to,
I want you just the way you are.

Fushia and Taupe er Tan: Martha Summer 2008

Leave it to Martha to make me want to expand our current wedding palette. Back in the naive days of a Valentines wedding, I was pretty set on pink and red for our wedding. I won't lie, Martha was responsible for that too. I saw her spread on pink and poppy last spring and really loved it. And here she is throwing in fushia and this gray/tan color!
